「あなたに彼女ができたら、あきらめがつくわ。」を英語で言うと。
Recently, I have been watching many American TV dramas, especially “Dead Zone”.
I am always ready with a notepad and a pen to write down interesting phrases I hear when watching dramas.
The other day, there was a very intriguing phrase in “Dead Zone”: "I don’t have to think of you as available anymore.”
John Smith is the main character of “Dead Zone”, who was a very good high school teacher, and was engaged. He was very fulfilled both in his career and social life. However, he had a car accident, and was in a comma for six years. The doctor diagnosed that he would never come to again.
His fiancée was pregnant with John’s baby at the time, so she was devastated. However, she met another man who helped her, with whom she fell in love. She got married to him.
She forgot about John, and had a happy married life. However, John woke up. She was very confused. Of course she loves her husband, but she also can not forget about John. She introduced her girlfriend to John and tried to pair them off .
Then, she told John, “I don’t have to think of you as available anymore.” I thought the usage of “available” was very interesting, so I quickly jotted it down.
At the end of the day, watching American dramas is a lot of fun, so it is one of my great pleasures.

最近、色々な海外ドラマを見てますが、「デッドゾーン」もそのうちの1つです。
私は海外ドラマを見ているときは、横にメモとペンを置いて面白そうなフレーズを書きとめてあとでノートにまとめています。
先日、面白いな〜と思ったのが「あなたに彼女ができたら、私はあなたのことがあきらめられると思うの」というセリフ。
デッドゾーンの主人公である、ジョン・スミスは優秀な高校の教師で、婚約中でした。仕事も私生活も非常に充実していたのだけど、ある日、車の事故にあって６年間昏睡状態になります。奇跡的に６年で目が醒めたけれど、医者は「おそらく一生このままだろう」と診断していました。
婚約者の女性はジョンの子どもを当時妊娠中。悲嘆にくれていた彼女を支えてくれる別の男性が現れ、その男性と結婚。
ジョンのことはあきらめて幸せに暮らしていたところに、ジョンが目覚めてしまうので、この女性は非常に混乱するわけです。現在の夫はもちろん好きだけれど、かつての婚約者も忘れられない。この女性はジョンに女性友達を紹介して、カップルにしようとするわけです。
そこで「「あなたに彼女ができたら、私はあなたのことがあきらめられると思うの」というセリフが出てくるのですが、このavailableの使い方が非常に面白いなあ、と思ったのでメモすることにしました。
ドラマを見るのはとても楽しくて1日の終わりの楽しみになっています。

よく、「観るのがない！」という人がいますが、私は海外ドラマにはまって毎晩観ています！
「24」の再放送とか、「LOST」はあまり観ませんが、「bones」は最初つまらなかったけど最近面白い（笑
観ていると「あ、聞き取れてる」という瞬間があって楽しいです。
